In innovative labs, research departments, and operating rooms, momentum is building for the integration of eastern and western medicine. While the western world was drilling down on acute care, the East has emphasized more preventative care, in the context of a holistic mind-body-spirit connection. I had an appreciation for this synergy of East and West, yin and yang, even before medical school. Since then, I’ve been fortunate to be surrounded by some trailblazing colleagues who’ve taught me not to fear novel solutions.
I look forward to working with a diverse population of patients and peers, each of whom represents an opportunity for human connection. We can be the smartest doctors in the room, but if we lack compassion, we forego a key aspect of healing. In the end, I aspire to become wiser and more whole-hearted, a better scientist with greater compassion, and to make a lasting contribution.
